Since most weddings have 8-10 people seated at one table 4-5 sweet minis will fill the middle of the table beautifully. These babies will run you any where between $35-$45 per cake, it all depends on decoration and filling choices.

Well this blog is all about random facts, traditions and superstitions of the wedding cake. When I was researching to to this blog, I sure found some cool information about the wedding cake.

I guess we will start at the the history since that is why we have wedding cakes. Wedding cakes were brought to your wedding by your guest's, they were small wheat cakes that were broken over the head of the bride as a symbol of fertility. These cakes were served at the "wedding breakfast". It was called the "wedding breakfast" since the bride and the groom both had to fast before they got married. The "wedding breakfast" is now called the "wedding reception". The tiered design of the wedding cake is belived to have come from the tiered spire of St. Bride's Church in London.

The wedding cake is to symbolize fertility and prosperity. Traditionally the bride has the first bite: otherwise she will be childless and barren. When cutting the cake hand placement is very important. Traditionally the bride's hand goes on the knife first while her husband's hand goes over top of her's. They are to cut the bottom tier of the cake.

Tiered cakes were only reserved for royality. Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh's wedding cake was 9 feet tall and weighed 500 pounds. The 4 tiered wedding cake featured sugar replicas of Windsor, Buckingham and Balmoral Palace.

Groom's cakes are more prevalent in the southern united states. These cakes are the opposite of the bride's cake. The color for these cakes are usually dark and the filling is always opposite of the brides cake. So if the brides cake is vanilla the groom's cake is chocolate.

The superstitions I found to be very interesting. I think that these cought my attention since so many people do these at their wedding.
1) sharing the wedding cake increases fertility and prosperity.
2) the bride who bakes her own cake is asking for trouble.
3) a taste of the wedding cake before the wedding means a loss of your husband's love, while a peice of it saved after the big day ensures fidelity.
4) must cut slice together, brides hand's on knife first
5) every guest must have a small peice of cake to ensure the couple are blessed with children.

I hope that you found these facts, traditions and superstitions as interesting as I did. It is funny how some of these points on here are still practiced hundreds of years later.

I met with Norma Jean (assistant general manager) this week and she took me on a tour of her beautiful restaurant. We sat and had a glass of wine or two while she and I discussed the layout for a wedding reception. Upstairs it the perfect location, with a walkout balcony, modern furniture, and a fireplace what more could a bride want?? Chef Kai Salamaki has created an awesome menu that would please anyonespalate. Some of the palate pleasers include: Nova Scotia Lobster Springrolls, Risotto Croquettes, Velvet Fog Battered Sable Fish, and a Charcuterie Plate. This is a location worth checking out, if not for your wedding reception then try it out for your engagement party!

To Book your reservations please call: 403 457 5522
