We are about 2 weeks away from the Bridal Fantasy show in Calgary. Angela and I have been quite busy getting everything ready for our booth (#33). I have started getting some cakes designed and I am so excited to be able to share them with some future brides that I meet at this event. I havetried some new designs that I have never done before and I am thrilled with the results that I got, these cakes are going to be fabulous!! So what I have to report you is that I have ventured into a Wedding Planning Company with one of my most cherished friends. Weddings by Angela Spencer (website to follow) is up and running with our first event, the Bridal Fantasy exhibit at the Telus Convention Centre downtown Calgary. I am so excited to support Angela with this new company. She is a wedding planner that can give you everything. Packages in the Canadian Rockies to Downtown Calgary. "Let Them Eat Cake" - Marie Antoinette from Let Them Eat Cake.....

"Let Them Eat Cake." One of the most famous sayings in the world. Marie Antoinette had a great, simple idea..... eating cake!! What could be better?! I started this little cake company on the passion that I have for creating beautiful cakes. I love to make big, beautiful, romantic cakes for weddings, that is what it is all about. Cakes filled with french buttercream, fresh berries, syrups and jams. The way a cake should be. So good that you want to have more, and this is where "let them eat cake" applies. Baby shower cakes that are soft and beautiful, just like the mother to be is. Cakes that welcome her baby into this world and let them know at a young age that this is how cakes and sweets should taste. And so this is where it all began, on the passion to make the perfect cake for the most important event in your life. I can't wait to get the opportunity to create a memory for you and let you look back on that day and say "we let them eat cake, and lots of it!"

wedding season is upon us from Let Them Eat Cake.....

I am sure you are all thinking "wedding season already?" Well the truth of it is, that yes it is getting into wedding season. As we approach this weekend of Bridal Fantasy with nerves and excitement, I am glad that this will be the weekend that is going to be life changing! My good friends Shannon and Angie are thinking the same as me. Shannon has the most unique, beautiful invites that you can imagine. She will also be at Bridal Fantasy (booth #91) with her invitation company, Spoonful of Sugar. I will be at Angie's booth (#33) with a display of cakes that I have done to show you what new trends are happening in the wedding cake side of your wedding. Angela will be there to that she can meet you and also tell you about the services that her wedding planning company can offer to you. Can't wait to see you at the show and talk cake with you.

Sweet Minis from Let Them Eat Cake.....

Here they are.......... my sweet little minis! I just love the look of these cakes. They are so posh and practical. The cupcake trend is so over. The cupcake did have a good run though, they were big about 4 years ago and each season still some brides choose them. That is until now, I like to call these sweet minis couple cakes. A great thing about the sweet minis is that they can be used as the center piece for your guest tables as well as the dessert. If you look at the price of a center piece plus the cost of a plated dessert (approx 9-12$) at most venues the sweet minis are saving you money, plus what a nice surprise for your guests. Since most weddings have 8-10 people seated at one table 4-5 sweet minis will fill the middle of the table beautifully. These babies will run you any where between $35-$45 per cake, it all depends on decoration and filling choices.

Booking a cake?? What I need to know from Let Them Eat Cake.....

So you are ready to book your wedding cake, you have flipped through the pages of bridal magazines and have fell in love with "the cake". That was the easy part. Here are a few tips that will help you when you are booking your wedding cake. These are just a few questions that I ask my clients before we can start anything cake related. 1)Is the cake being served as the main dessert or as a tea/coffee station later in the night 2)filling choices eg: carrot, chocolate sponge, vanilla, chocolate mousse, fresh fruit, etc 3)rolled fondant icing or french buttercream 4)decoration 5)do you want to save any cake for gift opening or top tier for first wedding anniversary 6)what is your wedding cake budget I hope that this will help you when you are looking to book your cake. Once you know the answers to the above questions booking your cake will be a "cake walk!"

Well this blog is all about random facts, traditions and superstitions of the wedding cake. When I was researching to to this blog, I sure found some cool information about the wedding cake. I guess we will start at the the history since that is why we have wedding cakes. Wedding cakes were brought to your wedding by your guest's, they were small wheat cakes that were broken over the head of the bride as a symbol of fertility. These cakes were served at the "wedding breakfast". It was called the "wedding breakfast" since the bride and the groom both had to fast before they got married. Perfect Place for Cocktail Reception from Let Them Eat Cake.....

I would like to introduce you to the hottest place in Calgary for a stand up cocktail reception. The Vin Room is located right on fourth street in the old mission cycle building ( 2310- 4th st SW). This location that once was a bike shop is now a stunning, and modern restaurant. I met with Norma Jean (assistant general manager) this week and she took me on a tour of her beautiful restaurant. We sat and had a glass of wine or two while she and I discussed the layout for a wedding reception. Upstairs it the perfect location, with a walkout balcony, modern furniture, and a fireplace what more could a bride want?? Chef Kai Salamaki has created an awesome menu that would please anyonespalate.
